What Is MerleFest 2026 and Why Does It Matter for NC Drivers?
If there's one event that puts our corner of North Carolina on the national map, it's MerleFest. Running April 23–26 at Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, this legendary music festival draws 75,000+ visitors from across the country to experience 12 stages of "traditional plus" music — bluegrass, Americana, country, folk, blues, and everything in between.
For families in Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties, MerleFest weekend means incredible music and massive traffic. I-77, US-421, and NC-268 all see significantly heavier volume Thursday through Sunday. If you're driving in from Elkin, Mount Airy, Pilot Mountain, or Dobson, plan your route, leave early, and keep your eyes on the road.

How Bill Layne Insurance Helps
MerleFest weekend puts thousands of extra drivers on our local roads — including out-of-state visitors who may not carry adequate coverage. Your UM/UIM coverage (now mandatory in NC) protects you if one of them causes a wreck. We make sure you're locked in before the festival starts.
