A Natural Marvel
Rising nearly 2,000 feet above the rolling Piedmont, Pilot Mountain's distinctive quartzite pinnacle has guided travelers through the North Carolina foothills for centuries. The Saura people called it Jomeokee -- meaning "Great Guide" -- and its unmistakable silhouette remains one of the most recognized landmarks in the state.
Today, Pilot Mountain State Park offers some of the best outdoor adventure in Surry County. The summit overlook delivers sweeping panoramic views of the Yadkin Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond. With miles of well-maintained hiking trails, challenging rock faces for climbers, and the Yadkin River winding through the park's lower section, there is something here for every level of outdoor enthusiast.
