How we are paid
Bill Layne Insurance Agency is an independent agency. We are appointed by the insurance companies listed on our carriers page and are paid a commission by the carrier when a policy is issued or renewed. You do not pay us a fee for a quote, and the commission is built into the premium the carrier files with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, so the price is the same whether you buy through us or directly from that carrier.
Commission rates differ from carrier to carrier and by product. Our job is to place you with the company that fits your home or driving record, and a policy that lapses or is placed badly costs us more in service time than any commission difference is worth. We do not accept payment from carriers or third parties for editorial content, rankings, or reviews on this site.
What a rate example means
- A premium example on this site is one dated quote for a hypothetical, standardized home or vehicle in the town named, run through the rating systems of the carriers we represent. It is not an average, an offer, a guarantee, or a prediction of what you will pay.
- Eligibility and premium are determined by the insurance company after it reviews your application, claims and driving history, credit-based insurance score where permitted, and property details.
- Examples are labeled with the quote date, the assumptions used, and whether they reflect an approved manual rate or a consent-to-rate premium. The methodology behind every example is published and linked from the page.
- We do not name a specific carrier next to a premium unless that carrier has approved the use in writing.
- We never advertise "cheapest," "guaranteed," or "save $X" claims. Any savings depend on your situation and the carriers' filed rates on the day you are quoted.
Carrier names, logos, and reviews
Carrier names and logos appear to identify the companies we are appointed with. They do not mean a carrier endorses this website or its content. Customer reviews and testimonials are from real customers and are shown without compensation; our Google Business Profile carries the public reviews and their ratings.
